How are the puppies raised?
Before our puppies leave, they have received exceptional care and are set up for success. They are eating solid dry kibble for easy feeding. During the day, they are outside in the pasture with the sheep, learning alongside their mom. At night, they are brought inside, so they are comfortable indoors too. They receive lots of attention, and several times a day, kids will spend time with them out in the pasture or bring them into the yard. We expose them to crates, collars, vehicles, and other objects. We lay a foundation for training by working on resource guarding, coming when called, and being attentive to both people and livestock.
What happens when the puppies go home?
When we send puppies home, our buyers are not without support. Each puppy is sent home with their health records, food, pet insurance, guarantees, and a lifetime of breeder support. We keep our buyers in the loop with weekly emails containing updates and training or care instructions for when they bring their puppy home. We want our buyers to have success with their puppy and are more than happy to help wherever we can to make that happen.
The Care Put In
What happens once you're on the waitlist?
After our buyers join the waitlist, we encourage them to follow along on our Facebook and Instagram pages to stay up to date with the latest updates. We will also reach out whenever we have a relevant update. Buyers are given plenty of notice when their potential puppy is on its way! Once a litter is born, we run through our waitlist and see who is ready for a puppy. If the timing isn't right, buyers are welcome to pass on a litter and wait for the next one. Once a buyer has committed to a litter, we keep them updated with weekly pictures, updates, and training/care instructions.
What is the selection process like?
Our selection process is heavily personality-based, meaning our top priority when placing puppies is to match each buyer with the puppy whose temperament will meet their needs best. At seven weeks, our puppies are personality tested according to the Volhard's Personality Test. In addition, we will also consider the gender, colouring, and build preferences of each buyer. Using these results and our own observations, we then match each buyer with the two most suitable puppies, and they choose which pup, out of the two, they would like to go with.
