Our sheep graze pasture which is protected by our livestock guardian dogs. During the winter months we feed them the hay we have grown and, occasionally, oats to keep the ewes condition up in the coldest months. In the spring we lamb out the ewes. The lambs stay with their mother all summer and graze the pasture. Since our lambs are raised off of the pasture, they are slower to finish, but we find the extra time creates delicious, mild meat. Dorper sheep originated in South Africa in the 1930s. They are hair breed which means they will shed instead of needing to be sheered. Dorpers are characterized by their black heads and white bodies. The dorper was primarily bred for meat production, their meat is known for being tender, with a nice carcass, and an excellent, mild flavour! They are fast maturing and are one of the most fertile breeds of sheep. Dorpers are very maternal, excellent mothers, and have good milk supply.

About Kunekune Pigs
We offer a selection of AKKPS registered Kunekunes each year. These piglets can be used for breeding stock, pets, or meat. Please use the button to request your Bar JO piglets now. Our Kunekune pigs graze in the tree farm we are establishing. They do not root nor do they eat the leaves on trees, which makes them the perfect fit for this area on our property. To this point we have raised Kunekunes solely for meat, but now have registered Kunekune piglets available. The Kunekune breed is the perfect pig for acreages and homesteads. Kunekune pigs are the perfect homestead breed. Kunekune translates to "fat and round" in the Maori language. They are medium sized hairy pigs, with the females maturing around 150-175lbs, and the males around 200lbs. Kunekunes are docile and gentle, and ours will often flop over at our feet for belly rubs. They have a short, upturned snout making them a wonderful grazing pig as they are unable to root the same as traditional pigs. Kunekune pigs are a heritage breed which originated in New Zealand and have recently gained popularity throughout North America.
